How Do You Add Your Own Line Above or Below a Forwarded Telegram Message?
A relayed message that arrives bare looks like it came from nowhere. A single line above or below fixes that: where it came from, whose channel this is, what to do next. It is set once on the rule and applied to everything that passes through it.
What the two fields do
They apply to the text of a message and to the caption of an attachment, so a photo arrives with the same line under it as a text post. A message with no text at all gets your line as its caption.
- Header: a line added before the message.
- Footer: a line added after it.
- Either can be used alone. Both are optional.
The original formatting does not slide
This is the part that is easy to get wrong and invisible when it goes right. Bold, italics and links in a Telegram message are ranges pinned to positions in the text. Add twenty characters at the top and every range below has to move by exactly twenty, or the message arrives with the wrong words in bold and a link that covers half a sentence.
Adding a header shifts every one of those ranges by the exact length of what was inserted, so the message reads in the destination exactly as it read at the source, with your line on top.
What to put in it
Keep it to one line. A three-line footer on a two-line message reads as spam, and in a destination that receives hundreds of messages a day it is the first thing readers learn to skip.
- A source label, when several rules feed the same destination and readers need to know which is which.
- Your channel name or handle, so that a message screenshotted and shared carries your mark.
- A short call to action in the footer: a link to your group, your landing page, your site.
- A disclaimer, when you relay signals or financial content and want the caveat attached to every one.
Header and footer, or a source link?
There is a separate option that adds an automatic "forwarded from" line with the name of the source chat. Use that when the point is attribution and you want it to follow the actual source. Use a header or footer when the line is yours and should be identical everywhere, whatever the source.
They can be combined, but rarely should be: two labels above one message is one too many.
Order of operations
The header and footer are added at the end of the pipeline, after filters, after find and replace, after any AI step. That matters in one practical way: a find-and-replace rule cannot accidentally rewrite your own footer, because at the moment the replacements run the footer is not there yet.
Which plans include it
Captions with a header and footer are part of the paid plans, from Smart upwards. The plan comparison is on the pricing page.
Common questions
Can I add my channel name to every forwarded message?
Yes. Set a header or a footer on the rule and the same line is added to every message it relays, including the captions of photos and files.
Does adding a header break the bold text or the links in the message?
No. Formatting in Telegram is stored as ranges tied to positions in the text, so inserting a line has to move all of them by the same amount. That shift is applied exactly, and the message reads in the destination as it read at the source.
Is the footer added to photos and files as well?
Yes, it goes into the caption. A message with no text at all arrives with your line as its caption.
Can find and replace modify my own footer by mistake?
No. The header and footer are added after the replacements have run, so they are never seen by them.
