How Do You Forward Only the Messages From Certain People in a Telegram Group?
In a busy group, the value is often concentrated in two or three people: the analyst, the admin, the one who actually posts the calls. Per-person filters relay only those, and leave the rest of the conversation where it is.
Allowed and blocked, and which one to reach for
The allowed list suits a group where you know exactly whose posts matter and the rest is chat. The blocked list suits the opposite case: the group is mostly useful and one or two accounts are noise.
- Allowed people: only messages from the people on the list are relayed. Everyone else is dropped, including new members.
- Blocked people: everything is relayed except messages from the people on the list.
- Empty lists mean no restriction. Leaving the allowed list empty does not block anyone.
The part that surprises people: a channel post has no person behind it
In a group, each message carries the person who wrote it, and the filter has something to compare. In a broadcast channel, posts are published by the channel itself โ there is no person attached to them, even when a human pressed the button.
The consequence is blunt: an allowed-people list on a channel matches nothing, so nothing is relayed, and it looks exactly like a broken rule. If your source is a channel, filter by keyword or by media type instead. Per-person filters are a group tool.
Getting the identifier of a person
The list works on numeric identifiers rather than usernames, and that is deliberate: a username can be changed or given up, while the number stays with the account. It means a member who changes their handle keeps being relayed, and someone who takes over an abandoned username does not inherit their place on your list.
The guide on finding a Telegram identifier covers how to read one. In a group, the quickest route is to open the profile from one of their messages.
Anonymous admins, bots and forwarded posts
- An admin posting anonymously appears as the group, not as themselves, so an allowed list of people will not match them.
- A message posted by an automated account carries that account, not the person who set it up.
- A message someone forwards into the group carries the person who forwarded it, not the original author.
Combining with the other filters
Per-person filters run alongside the keyword and media filters, and all of them have to pass. "Only from these two people, and only when the message mentions a ticker" is one rule with two filters, not two rules. If nothing arrives, switch the filters off and add them back one at a time: the one that stops your test message is the one to loosen.
Common questions
Can I forward only the messages from one person in a Telegram group?
Yes. Put their identifier on the allowed-people list of the rule and only their messages are relayed. Everyone else in the group is dropped, including members who join later.
Why does my per-person filter block everything on a channel?
Because posts in a broadcast channel are published by the channel itself and carry no person to compare. An allowed-people list therefore matches nothing. On a channel, filter by keyword or media type instead.
Does the filter use the username or the numeric identifier?
The numeric identifier, which does not change when someone changes their handle. It also means nobody inherits a place on your list by taking over an abandoned username.
What about admins who post anonymously?
They appear as the group rather than as themselves, so a list of people will not match them. If you need their posts, filter on something else in the message.
