How to Forward from a Telegram Channel with Forwarding Restrictions
Some Telegram channels and groups have "Restrict saving content" turned on: the forward button disappears, media cannot be saved, and copying is blocked. If you are a member and need those messages in another chat — your own channel, a team group, a trading room — here is what actually works, from the manual fallback to a fully automatic setup.
What "forwarding restrictions" means on Telegram
A channel or group owner can enable "Restrict saving content" in the chat settings. From that moment, members cannot forward messages, save media to their device or copy text using the normal Telegram interface. Screenshots are also blocked on some clients. The content is still fully readable by every member — the restriction only removes the sharing controls.
This is why the usual "forward" and "save" options are missing on protected channels, and why most forwarding bots stop working: a bot needs the content to be forwardable, and here it is not.
Option 1: Manual workaround (slow, breaks formatting)
These work for a single message, but they lose formatting, links and media, and they are useless if you need every new post delivered in real time.
- Take a screenshot (where the client allows it) and send the image.
- Retype the message by hand in the destination chat.
- Use a second device to photograph the screen.
Option 2: Automatic forwarding from restricted channels with Phantom Forwarder
Phantom Forwarder is a cloud service that forwards messages from any Telegram channel, group, chat or Forum Topic your account can read — including channels with forwarding restrictions and saving disabled — to any destination you choose. It runs 24/7 on our servers, so nothing has to stay open on your phone or computer.
- Create a free account at phantomforwarder.com (7-day trial, unlimited rules and destinations).
- Connect your Telegram account with your phone number and the login code — no API keys, no software to install.
- Create a forwarding rule: pick the restricted channel as the source and your channel or group as the destination.
- Optionally turn on Ghost Mode so you stay invisible while forwarding, and add filters (keywords, media type), find & replace or a custom header/footer.
- Save. From now on every new message in the restricted channel is delivered to your destination automatically, with text, formatting and media preserved.
Does it work if the channel is private?
Yes, as long as your Telegram account is a member and can read the messages. Phantom Forwarder never bypasses membership: it forwards what you can already see, and only from chats you choose.
Respect the channel owner
Forwarding restrictions are set by the channel owner for a reason. Use automatic forwarding for legitimate purposes — your own backup, an internal team channel, or content you are licensed to redistribute — and respect copyright and the rules of the communities you belong to.
Common questions
How do I forward a message from a Telegram channel that disables saving?
Manually you can only screenshot or retype it. To do it automatically and keep formatting and media, use a service like Phantom Forwarder: connect your account, choose the restricted channel as the source and your destination chat, and every new post is forwarded for you 24/7.
Can Telegram bots forward from protected channels?
Usually not: standard forwarding bots rely on the content being forwardable, and on protected channels it is not. Phantom Forwarder is built for exactly this case and works on channels and groups with saving and forwarding disabled, as long as your account can read them.
Will the channel owner see that I am forwarding?
With Ghost Mode enabled you stay invisible while forwarding in the destination chat: nothing there links the messages to you.
Is forwarding from a restricted channel legal?
That depends on the content and your jurisdiction. Forwarding content you have the right to use (your own, licensed, or for private backup) is generally fine; redistributing paid or copyrighted content without permission is not. Always respect the channel rules.
Is there a way to bypass Telegram forwarding restrictions?
Nothing bypasses the restriction itself: the setting stays on and the forward button stays missing for everyone in the chat. What changes is where the content goes next. Phantom Forwarder delivers the messages you can already read into a destination you choose, without touching the source chat or its settings. If you cannot read the channel in the first place, there is nothing to deliver.
Telegram says forwarding is not allowed in this chat. What can I do?
That message means the owner has enabled the restriction on saving and forwarding, and no setting on your side removes it. You can still receive the content in another chat automatically, provided your account is a member and can read it. Screenshots and retyping are the manual alternatives, and they lose formatting, links and media.
Does the channel owner see that I am copying the messages?
Nothing is written into the source chat: no reaction, no message, no membership change. What we do not claim is that the copied content is untraceable — anyone who reads both chats can see that the same posts appear in both, and that is true of any copy, manual ones included.
Do modified Telegram clients work for saving from restricted channels?
Some of them remove the buttons, yes. They are also one of the reasons accounts get restricted, and they ask you to sign in with your number inside software nobody has audited. It is a bad trade for an account that holds your channels and your history.
